National Security Waiver to Specialty Metals Clause

GAO has issued a report assessing how DOD utilizes the national security waiver to the Specialty Metals Amendment.   GAO recommends that DOD disseminate non-sensitive information within the Department and its supplier base on its use of the national security waiver provision.  The report was reportedly undertaken based on concerns that DoD has waived the Specialty Metals Amendment, in certain instances, without taking into account U.S. capabilities to supply covered materials, thereby denying to U.S. specialty metals producers the opportunity to participate in certain defense programs.
